Volunteering with Shot in the Dark
Shot in the Dark is powered entirely by a collective of volunteers who love people who use drugs (PWUD).
Every year, we invest thousands of hours and our whole hearts into distributing safe supplies, answering calls, and building a reliable structure to support our community.
If you care about creating a world free from the harms and stigmas of drug use, volunteering with Shot in the Dark could be your calling.

Reasons to Volunteer with Us
You live, eat, and breathe harm reduction and are seeking a way to channel your energy.
Radical love runs through your veins and you want to work with a community that shares your values.
You have lived experience using drugs and want to make sure other PWUD can stay safe.
You know our public systems are failing PWUD and you’re ready to do something about it.
You’re looking for a long-term opportunity to work in partnership with your community.
Ways to Volunteer with Us
Whether you have a lot of time to give or a little, there are many volunteer roles to choose from.
All volunteer roles are long-term—because every one of them is vital to our ability to deliver community services to PWUD throughout the Phoenix Valley.
Here are some ways you can get involved.
Site Shifts
Commit to one or more weekly shifts distributing supplies at a local site. This is where most volunteers start so they can be on the ground and in the mix learning the ropes.
Fill-In Hero
Give other volunteers a vital break and be on standby to cover site shifts in case of emergency. You’ll get to jump in where you can, as often as you can, doing different jobs all the time.
Kit Maker
Pick up supplies, make kits in your spare time, and drop them off at our supply shed when you’re done. This is perfect if you have extra time to kill at home or like doing repetitive tasks.
Money Maker
Drum up local business support, host supply drives, write grant proposals, or throw a party. If you have a knack for raising money, there are lots of ways to help us sustain and grow.
Meeting Facilitator
Take a turn facilitating our monthly meeting. All volunteers get together once a month. Each month’s facilitator picks the location, plans the agenda, and sends out meeting reminders.
Slack Monitor
Keep an eye on our volunteer Slack workspace to watch for messages from volunteers needing information or help. Respond and connect folks with the resources they need.
Volunteer Recruiter
Grow our volunteer base by spreading the word about our volunteer opportunities. Invite people to come out on a shift and connect them with our volunteer coordinator to get started.
Lead Role
Be accountable for making sure something happens—like notetaking, managing inventory, finance, social media, or phones, or be responsible for the bottom-line operations of a site.
