A Community of PWUD and People Who Love Them

We’re a network of people with lived experience, volunteers, and community organizations who see drug user health as a point that unites people from all different backgrounds. We are parents, anarchists, social workers, and musicians.

Some of us are current or former injectors. Some have/do use(d) lots of drugs but not injected. Some of us have friends or family members who use(d). And some of us just see a problem that needs to be fixed.

Volunteers

Shot in the Dark only exists because of our volunteers. We’ve been powered entirely by volunteers since the beginning.

These folks invest over 3000 hours a year showing up for our community.

What harm reduction means to me:

Harm reduction is about providing support to everyone, no matter where they are in their journey. It’s about creating safe, compassionate spaces where individuals can access the care they deserve, free from judgment or fear. It’s about ensuring they know they are never alone and that care is always within reach.

Killian

Site Lead

What harm reduction means to me:

Harm reduction is the only option in a uncaring system that stigmatizes & endangers people who use drugs. Shot in the Dark's harm reduction efforts protect our communities and save lives.

Participants

Participants are the heart of our community. They’re the reason we show up week in and week out, rain, shine, or 100+ degree temperatures. Connections with participants run deep. We respect and protect the anonymity of our participants so we don’t track people who come to our sites. We meet every person where they’re at—sharing space, laughing, crying, and being in community together.

"Thank you for doing whatt you do. It is appreciated more than I could ever explain. Thank you"
"I am appreciative for your program & have been attending the Friday nite location for about 2 years, on and off. I was able to give a small donation today but I do appreciate being able to use this resource even when I am not able to make a cash donation. Also thank you for the small sharps container as well. That is very helpful :)"
"It's amazing that services like these are provided for those who are experiencing homelessness"
"You guys are amazing! I always tell people about you! How what a judgmental free zone it is and how nice the volunteers are! Thank you for everything you do!
